NASA confirms Russia will not leave ISS until 2028.
The United States and Russia are two of the nations that collaborated to build the International Space Station (ISS).
Russia will remain a member of the ISS through at least 2028, according to NASA.
The Russian portion of the station was supposed to be shut down in 2024 according to the prior agreement between the two nations.
The ISS will continue to run and be maintained as long as Russia is actively involved in it.
The only artificial satellite that can support human habitation is the International Space Station, which has been running continuously since 2000.
The station provides a platform for microgravity experiments and scientific study.
As part of the Artemis programme to send people back to the Moon, NASA and its international partners want to deploy the Gateway, a lunar colony, in the 2020s.
The plans for the Gateway and the Artemis programme by NASA won't be affected by Russia's presence in the ISS.
